Friday Favorites: Holiday Edition

Good morning and happy Winter Solstice!

Up here in the Northern Hemisphere, the December Solstice is the first day of winter, a time of inward reflection, and signifies a turning point. It’s the perfect time take a moment, to pause, and and to reflect on if our actions are aligned with our goals. I find myself doing this naturally towards the end of every December since the year is coming to a close and I always want to start fresh in the new year. I’ll definitely be reflecting during the following week and realigning my life in a few ways.

But, for today, I want to put aside all the inward reflection and spiritual exploration to post something fun. I’ve done Friday Favorites in the past and I thought I’d bring it back today with a Holiday Edition! I’ve narrowed my list down to my five favorite things this very moment.

  1. Eggnog Lattés
I’m one of those people who could probably drink eggnog all year long but I only allow myself to indulge during the holiday season so that it stays a special treat. Since a glass of straight up eggnog can be a little much while an eggnog cocktail isn’t necessarily acceptable at 9am, I’ve been loving my homemade eggnog lattés. I just whisk together some brewed coffee & eggnog and sprinkle with a little nutmeg and cinnamon. Vanilla extract optional. Voila! A festive drink to start your day.
  2. Scarfb1c41b5a50847516b5f08179669ace8b
When I first moved to the city, I lived just down the street from American Apparel. Although their clothes were a little too expensive for my retail-working self, I splurged on a black Circle Scarf. That was almost 10 years ago and it remains one of my favorite winter accessories. It is the thickest and widest scarf I have ever seen. It can essentially double as a blanket. Unfortunately, I don’t think AA sells these anymore but any black circle scarf seems like a must-have in everyone’s winter wardrobe. I don’t even wait until I have to go outside to wear it… it’s almost constantly around my neck.
  3. Essential Oils
Those who know me, know I’m a huge fan of essential oils and have been for several years. My love for them holds strong during the winter months and I love diffusing wintery scents. My current favourites are fir tree, juniper and orange because they make my apartment smell perfectly festive without being too over the top.
  4. Blundstones
s-l1600.jpgOkay, so I’m kind of cheating with this one since I don’t technically have a pair of Blundstones YET, but I am getting a pair for Christmas and I can’t wait to start wearing them. I’m really making an effort to invest in clothing and accessories that are durable and won’t have to be replaced every two years and, from what I’ve heard, Blundstones are the perfect investment.
  5. Christmas Fireplace channel
And, lastly, I’m highly enjoying snuggling up in front of the Christmas Fireplace on TV. I don’t have a real fireplace, so this is the next best thing. The crackle of the fire and the relaxing Christmas songs scream COZY. I have it playing in the background pretty much every waking moment of the day.

There you have it. Five of my favorite things at the moment. I’d love to know some of your Holiday Faves this year so comment below and share!IMG_4179
