How I’m Using Activated Charcoal

Lately I can’t scroll through social media without seeing something related to activated charcoal. It has definitely become a popular product. But what is it exactly? What are the benefits? How can it be used? I was asking myself all of these questions so I bought 1lb of the stuff and started researching!

Activated charcoal, a fine, black odorless, tasteless, and nontoxic powder, is used medicinally as well as in air and water purifiers. Its recorded use dates back to 1550 BC and in modern times is most widely used medicinally as a detoxifier and poison antidote as it adsorbs most organic toxins, chemicals and poisons before they can harm the body. Activated charcoal works by trapping toxins and chemicals in its millions of tiny pores.

1. Whitens teeth
2. Alleviates gas and bloating
3. Mold cleansing
4. Skin & body health
5. Digestive cleanse
6. Anti-aging

Toothpaste: I have already used an activated charcoal toothpaste in the past and one of the main reasons that I bought it in bulk this time was because I could get a lot more bang for my buck, instead of paying a lot of money for a small container. Although there are some naysayers, I can see a significant different in how white my teeth are after just a few uses.

Charcoal Lemonade: This was the very first thing I made with my activated charcoal and I was super impressed. You can make this two ways:
1) Buy a bottle of organic lemonade and mix in a small amount of activated charcoal;
2) Make your own! Mix water, juice from a lemon, some honey or agave syrup and a small amount of activated charcoal.
Sure, drinking a pitch black liquid can seem a little off putting but you don’t taste the charcoal. It just tastes like regular lemonade!

Charcoal Face Mask & Scrub: Since it’s so good for skin complexion and anti-aging, I’m going to try a few face mask and scrub recipes soon. I love being able to make my own beauty products with simple ingredients that I have around the house. Once I find something I like, I’ll let you guys know!xoLise

*Disclaimer: Activated charcoal may not be for everyone. If you have any medical conditions or are taking medicine, best to check with the doc before taking.
